A physical basis for the measurement methods of optical fiber strain based on the analysis in the Mandelstam – Brillouin time-domain scattering is considered. The possibility of full-fledged Brillouin monitoring of fibers connected to the splitter spurs of a passive optical network under condition of application of the end reflection method is presented. Resolution capability of reflectometers of this variety is evaluated.
