CHOICE OF RELIABILITY INDEXES FOR ACCESS NETWORKS The selection of reliability indicators for access networks is considered. Two views on the assessment of the reliability of communication networks are distinguished: from the end user and from the network operator. The application of the availability factor in the first case and the coefficient maintaining efficiency in the second. Consideration is given to the impact of large failures, affecting immediately a large number of users and affecting the image of the operator.
USING OF THE "DEGREE OF TECHNICAL PERFECTION" CRITERIA Aspects of applying the beauty criterion used in science to evaluate technical solutions in a telecommunication system are discussed. Earlier, the author proposed a similar criterion, called the "degree of technical perfection." It can be evaluated subjectively, and in some cases also numerically, using three indicators: nontriviality, effectiveness, and fundamentality. This article discusses the use of the criterion of "degree of technical excellence" to analyze one of the concepts associated with radical changes in the telecommunication system.

USING SCILAB PACKAGE MATRIX OPERATIONS WHEN SOLVING THE BASE DISCIPLINES TASKS The article discusses the use of matrix operations using the Scilab mathematical package to solve the problems of basic disciplines in training of bachelors, in particular, methods for creating matrices, basic operations with matrices and their elements, dynamic changes in the size of matrices and access to the elements of matrices with standard and vector indexing.
IMPROVEMENT OF MODULATION FORMATS IN DWDM OPTICAL COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS Research in the field of new modulation formats is stimulated by the search for ways to increase the speed of information transfer and reduce the cost of a unit of transmitted information. The direct path is to increase the spectral efficiency of DWDM communication systems and their throughput when using multi-level formats. However, the traditionally used and well-established multi-level DP-16QAM formats (DP-8QAM, DP-64QAM) with several transmit power levels limit the transmission range compared to the DP-QPSK format, in which power level modulation is not used. This work shows the potential of the 8PolSK-QPSK format, in which one energy level and a combination of polarization and phase modulation are used, for applications in long-distance communication lines. For FOCLs with shorter transmission ranges for which higher levels of OSNR are achievable at the output of the line, even more massive implementation of nQAM formats can be expected.
CALCULATION OF CRITICAL INDUCTION OF A SMOOTHING FILTER INDUCTOR. PART 2 A formula is derived for calculating the critical inductance of the inductor in the smoothing filter of a pulsed secondary power source with taking into account the length of the cutoff ("dead time"). The inductance is calculated based on the spread of the input supply voltages, the output currents of the load, and the pulse repetition period at the filter input.

ALGORITHM OF SECURE CONNECTION ESTABLISHMENT AT THE SUBSCRIBER ACCESS OF THE SIMULATOR OF THE INTEGRATED DATA NETWORK OF SPECIAL PURPOSE An integrated network is being considered, including several isolated (private) special-purpose data networks for various departments. Proposed are an algorithm for establishing switched virtual channels of different private networks on a hypothetical configuration of a simulator of a data transmission network of an Information Security Department of Bauman University training laboratory stand. The algorithm provides for reliability and information security.
