Growing needs in IoT networks deployment based on fifth generation mobile communications led to the emergence of new RedCap technology and its standardisation in 3GPP Partner Project Releases 17 and 18. The paper analyses market and technological features of RedCap technology, as well as peculiarities of the use of RedCap subscriber devices in 5G networks when providing IoT services.

The review of 3GPP 38.212 standard and known implementations of two important classes of codes − polar and LDPC (Low-Density Parity-Check) codes − widely used in modern data storage and communication systems in general and mobile communication in particular is presented. In the first part of the paper, the basic principles of LDPC codes, their structure and coding methods are considered. It is pointed out that LDPC codes are one of the key codes in the 5G networks standards and other wireless communication systems. In the second part of the paper, the focus is on polar codes. Their mathematical foundations, structures and decoding principles are reviewed. The coding efficiency and decoding algorithms is compared.

LAN-cables. What normative documents should they comply with? DOI: 10.22184/2070-8963.2024.117.1.18.24
The interrelation of the Customs Union Regulation TR TS 004/2011 and general technical conditions according to GOST R 54429-2011 in the part of LAN-cables certification is considered. The consistency of these documents is substantiated and their good harmonisation is noted. The practical value of the Regulations as a means of integral safety assessment (in the broad sense of the term) of LAN-cable as a product is shown and it is pointed out that it is expedient to turn to GOST certification in case of its application in new areas. The importance for telecom operators of testing the multi-pair cables parameters is noted.

On 29 December 2023, Rosstandart approved the national standards of the Russian Federation GOST R 71199-2023 "Cyber-physical systems. Smart House. Terms and definitions" and GOST R 71200-2023 "Cyberphysical systems. Smart House. General Provisions" with the date of implementation on 1 September 2024. On 29 January, TASS hosted a press conference dedicated to implementation of these new standards.

The story tells about structuring of communication in besieged Leningrad based on the materials of the exhibition opened in January 2024 in the Popov Central Museum of Communications. Special attention is paid to importance of joint actions of civil and military communicators. The role of Ivan Peresypkin, who in 1941–1944 headed the People’s Commissariat of Communications of the USSR and the Main Department of Communications of the Red Army, is reflected.
