Lightning Stroke Affecting Optical Cable in Mountainous Terrain and Nearby High-Rise Structures Recently there have been made some valuable discoveries in lightning research. It turned out that at lightning stroke build up emerge strong gamma and X-rays that constitute a treat for optical cables. It has been observed that particularly intense gamma-rays are found in upward lightning, i.e. in lightning strikes which forming begins from earth to cloud that is common to high-rise structures and mountainous terrain. This article considers the build up of such strokes conditions, evolution of their quantity and their possible action on optical fibre.
